NANNING, Oct. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The local government bureau in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has confirmed the identity of the Chinese engineer who was killed in the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Pakistan last Saturday.
Huang Bingkun, born in September 1966, was an engineer at the Guangxi Regional Hydro-electrical Bureau, said Lan Rui, director of the Political Work Department of the bureau.
Huang was sent to northwestern Pakistan's Allai Khwar River area in February last year and worked in the management section of a hydropower station project.
Lan said the remains of the victim would be cremated in Pakistan in the next few days. A deputy chief of the bureau left China for Pakistan Monday morning to deal with issues arising fromHuang's death.
Huang's wife Liang Xianwei and his 14 year-old son Huang Junming will go to Pakistan some days later to bid farewell to Huang's remains, Lan said.
"Huang's family members are deeply grieved. His wife is in a trance all day long and reluctant to see anybody," Lan said.
The Guangxi Regional Hydro-electrical Bureau currently has 27 staffs in Pakistan, including 21 at the construction site for the Allai Khwar hydropower station project, said Huang Sheng, deputy director of the International Engineering Department of the bureau.
"They haven't left the construction site," Huang said.
An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale jolted Pakistan at 11:50 a.m. on Oct. 8 (Beijing Time). The epicenter was located about 95 km northeast of Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, according to China's earthquake monitoring network.
The quake, believed to be the worst since the founding of Pakistan, caused widespread destruction in central and northern parts of Pakistan.
The quake killed at least 18,000 people and injured 40,000 others, a Pakistani military spokesman said on Sunday. Enditem |
