Ambassador Sun Weidong called on Prime Minister of Pakistan
2017/03/06

On 3 March 2017, Ambassador Sun Weidong called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. They exchanged views on China-Pakistan relations among others.

Prime Minister Sharif said, Pakistan-China relations have withstood the test of time, with the two peoples close as a family. Pakistan attaches high importance to its relations with China, and would like to join hands with China in maintaining the momentum of high-level contacts, deepening and expanding bilateral cooperation, so as to bring tangible benefits to their peoples. The China Pakistan Economic Corridor provides a historic opportunity for Pakistan’s development, and also plays a positive role in regional connectivity. Pakistan is committed to cooperation with China to yield in more fruitful outcomes from CPEC, so as to bring more welfare to the peoples of the two countries and the region.

Ambassador Sun Weidong said that China-Pakistan friendship has profound foundation, and that the two sides fully trust and support each other. In April 2015, H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping, President of China paid a historic state visit to Pakistan, during which the two countries uplifted bilateral relations to the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership. As a major and pilot project of the Belt and Road Initiative, CPEC has achieved important and staged progress, which fully demonstrates the concept of openness, inclusiveness, mutual-benefit and win-win cooperation. The Belt and Road International Cooperation Forum will be held in China this May. China would like to take this opportunity to push forward the construction of CPEC, and inject new impetus into China-Pakistan friendly cooperation.
