Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Chen Zhu visited the Gwadar Port

Chen Zhu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and President of Red Cross Society of China, visited the Gwadar Port in Balochistan province of Pakistan from May 6th to 7th.

Chen Zhu attended the inauguration of Fraternity Emergency Care Center and Yu-Fei International Fishery Processing Center. He also inspected the Gwadar Port and conveyed his greetings to the Chinese and Pakistani workers at the site. Ambassador Sun Weidong, senior officials from Consulate General of China in Karachi and the city of Karamay, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Federal Minister for Port and Shipping, Aurangzeb Haque, Chief Secretary of Balochistan, Saeed Elahi, President of the Pakistani Red Crescent Society were also present.

Fraternity Emergency Care Center, which will provide medical services to nearly 100 thousand local people and Chinese enterprises, was a gift from Red Cross Society of China with a total investment of 10 million RMB( equals to around Rs.165 million). In order to improve the people's livelihood and public security, Red Cross Society of China plans to set up a medical rescue corridor consisting of first-aid station, paramedic, ambulances and emergency responding systems along CPEC. The China-Pakistan medical rescue and emergency command and dispatch center will be established in Kashgar, Xinjiang, China. The ultimate goal is to form emergency rescue and medical service supply belt for CPEC.

As sister city of Gwadar, Karamay has always attached great importance to cooperation in improving people's livelihood with Gwadar. It has invited local doctors, teachers for training programs in China and donated materials in kinds to local hospitals and schools. Yu-Fei International (Gwadar), whose parent company is based in Karamay, devotes itself to building a seafood processing base in the Gwadar Port. It will promote the formation of a complete seafood industrial chain from seafood farming to fishery processing. It will create a large number of employment opportunities and increase the income of local people.

The Pakistani side warmly welcomed Chen Zhu’s visit, highly appreciated the emergency care center aided by Red Cross Society of China and congratulated the investment made by the Chinese enterprises in the Gwadar Port. Minister Bizenjo said that thanks to the hard work of Pakistani and Chinese workers, the Gwadar Port is changing for the better with each passing day. The local infrastructure and medical conditions have greatly improved for the benefit of the local people. The establishment of the emergency care center bears great significance, which relieves the difficulty of the local people seeking medical care far away from home. The people of Pakistan including Balochistan wholeheartedly support the CPEC and are grateful for the convenience brought by CPEC.

During this visit, Chen Zhu also witnessed the signing of MOU on jointly building the medical rescue corridor by Red Cross Society of China and Red Crescent Society of Pakistan.
