Ambassador Yao Jing Called on Commerce Minister

On January 23, Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing paid a courtesy call on Mohammad Pervaiz Malik, Federal Minister for Commerce at the Ministry of Commerce and Textile. After the meeting, they co-hosted a press conference for the China International Import Expo. Wang Zhihua, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, Mr. Mohammad Younus Dagha, Secretary Commerce were also present at this occasion.

Ambassador Yao Jing stated that President Xi Jinping had illuminated China’s principled stand on economic globalization and expressed China’s resolve to support economic globalization to the international community on several major international occasions. To hold China International Import Expo shows China’s active role as a major power in undertaking the responsibility of pushing forward economic globalization. China welcomes competitive products and services from countries all over the world to enter China’s vast market with a population of 1.3 billion. In the coming 5 years, China is expecting to import products and services worth more than ten trillion dollars.

Ambassador Yao Jing said China welcomes Pakistan to participate in this Import Expo in Shanghai from November 5-10, 2018 as the Guest of Honor of country. China cherished the special friendship with Pakistan. China will do best to help Pakistan boost its export to China. China and Pakistan could cooperate on the preparation work for the Import Expo to exhibit economic and social development of Pakistan to the international communities. Pakistan would benefit the most from this big event.

Minister for Commerce Malik highlighted the friendship between Pakistan and China. He expressed the gratitude for China to support Pakistan in every aspect. He thanked China for inviting Pakistan to participate in China International Import Expo as the Guest of Honor country. Pakistan paid high attention to the preparation work of the Import Expo and nominated Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to be the focal department. He said that “this is our own Exhibition, and we will fully support it”.

Both sides also exchanged opinions on balancing bilateral trade, increasing Pakistan’s export to China, promoting industrial parks in Pakistan, establishing special economic zones under CPEC and visa policy in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.

Ambassador Yao Jing answered questions on talks on China Pakistan Free Trade Agreement(CPFTA), Inspection and Quarantine requirements and other issues. He indicated that China will give full consideration to the concerns of Pakistan in talks on CPFTA, create all possible conditions, so as to achieve concerns as soon as possible.
