Ambassador Yao Jing Attends BRI and CPEC Seminar

On February 6, Ambassador Yao Jing delivered a keynote speech at the seminar on Six Years of BRI and CPEC organized by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). The seminar was also attended by Speaker of National Assembly Asad Qaiser, Chairman of Islamabad Stock Exchange Mr. Zahid, Executive Director of SDPI Dr Suleri and nearly 150 others from the Pakistani business community, academia and the press.

Yao reviewed the development and achievements of BRI over the past six years in three main aspects. First, it set a new model of cooperation between the international community and China. To date, more than 100 countries and dozens of international organizations have signed BRI agreements with China. Second, it has provided a new path for China to strengthen cooperation with relevant countries. Third, it put forward a new concept of extensive consultation, joint efforts and shared benefits. Adhering to the “Belt and Road” spirit of cooperation, CPEC projects have yielded fruitful results with the joint efforts of both sides. Through top-level design and structured cooperation, the two sides have worked out cooperation plans and identified key areas. The policy communication and coordination between the two countries have become closer, and the layout of cooperation has become clearer. The China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership has become more meaningful and promising.

Ambassador Yao said that currently all sectors in Pakistan are highly concerned about the COVID-19 outbreak. The Chinese government is determined and fully capable of overcoming the epidemic at an early date, temporary outbreak and difficulties would not hinder the BRI and CPEC cooperation. China is ready to work with the Pakistani government and all sectors of society to actively promote CPEC, welcomes the extensive participation and suggestions from the business community, think-tanks, media, and other sectors of the society, so as to promote high-quality bilateral cooperation.

Pakistani side believes that the Belt and Road Initiative represents a new concept to achieve common prosperity through win-win cooperation, which is in line with the trend of the world and the current needs of Pakistan. CPEC will transform Pakistan's national economy, provide a historic opportunity for Pakistan to become prosper and strong, and further strengthen China-Pakistan relations. Promoting CPEC cooperation has become the consensus of all walks of life in Pakistan. Pakistan thanked China for all its assistance and support in the difficult times and is ready to provide China with all assistance within its capacity to combat the epidemic. Pakistan and China should work together to sum up the successful experience of the BRI and CPEC, and push for more pragmatic results of cooperation in the future.
