Ambassador Nong Rong Met with Chairman CPEC Authority

On July 23, Ambassador Nong Rong met with Lt. Gen. (R) Asim Saleem Bajwa, Chairman CPEC Authority.

Chairman Asim Saleem Bajwa expressed his condolences to the blast incident of the Dasu Hydropower Project, emphasizing that no force can undermine Pakistan-China friendship nor bilateral cooperation. He highly appreciated the actions taken by the Ambassador Nong Nong and his team immediately after the incident. He noted that Ambassador Nong Rong met with Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Minister of Internal Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood, and paid on-site visits to Dasu and the CMH hospital for several times.

The Chairman has noted the arrangement by the Chinese Government of transporting the bodies of the victims back to China, and sincerely hoped that everyone could look forward beyond this tragic. He assured that the CPEC Authority would work together with other institutions in Pakistan, and spare no effort to promote the development of the CPEC and guarantee the safety of Chinese personnel and security of projects in Pakistan.

Ambassador Nong Rong told the Chairman that China-Pakistan relations have stood the test of time and become stronger over times. After the incident, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan called his counterpart Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to express his condolences. State Councilors Wang Yi and Zhao Kezhi had phone calls with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed respectively. Ambassador himself also met with Chief of Army Staff General Bajwa. The leaders of the two countries have expressed confidence in mutual support and deepening cooperation, as well as determination to find out the truth at an early date and bring the perpetrators to justice. Foreign Minister Qureshi's visit to China today would cover the issues in this regard and send positive signal to the outside world.

Ambassador Nong Rong reaffirmed that the Embassy would work closely with the CPEC Authority, with great determination and confidence, to strive for a closer China-Pakistan relationship.
