| PRCS Donates US$50000 for Chinese Quake Victims |

ISLAMABAD May 16: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society on Friday handed over US$ 50000 to Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Luo Zhaohui for the Chinese quake victims. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Zhaohui thanked PRCS for its generous support in this hour of need. He said that the help reflects that the whole Pakistani nation stands with the Chinese brethrens and this would further strengthen people to people relations. PRCS Acting Chairman Gul Hanif speaking on the occasion said the aftermath of the earthquake that struck China on 12th May 2008, the PRCS expresses its sincerest sympathy to the Government and people of China, particularly, all the bereaved families and victims of the recent Earthquake in Chengdu region. He said to assist the victims of this tragedy the PRCS would like to make a donation of US$ 50000 to the Red Cross Society of China. Although, this is a small amount but we hope that it will contribute towards the overall efforts of the Red Cross Society of China in alleviating the sufferings of the affectees, he added. PRCS Secretary General Brig. (Retd.) Muhammad Ilyas Khan speaking on the occasion said the Chinese Red Cross (CRC) has provided a cash assistance of US$ 100,000 during 8/10 earthquake and Rs. 1,186,960 for Rains/Snows in 2005 besides assistance in kind. He said CRC is assisting the PRCS in reconstruction projects worth US$ 1 million that include Girls High School No.2, Mansehra and Vocational Training Center, Hatian Dupatta & Lamnian in AJ&K. The ceremony was attended by PRCS Executive Committee members Mian Muhammad Javed, Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq and Tariq Masood. |
