BEIJING, June 16 (APP)  China Monday lauded Pakistan and the skill of its medical mission that had provided excellent medical assistance to the people of May 12 devastating earthquake in Gansu province.

"First of all on behalf of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Government and the people in Gansu I wish to express my appreciation for the Pakistan's Government and the Medical staff for their excellent skill in carrying out professional task?, the Vice-Governor of Gansu province and member of the Standing Commission of CPC Feng Jianshen said at a press conference here at the State Council Information Office.

The 28-member Pakistan medical team comprising doctors and paramedical staff left for Pakistan last Friday after completing their relief and rehabilitation assignment in Longnan, Gansu province where it had establishment medical field hospital and provided medical assistance including surgeries to 1200 patients during their  12-day stay. 

"What they (Pakistani medical team staff) did  was highly  commended by the local people of Gansu province," he noted.  The Pakistan Medical mission "had shown a high degree of humanitarianism and internationalism," he maintained.

He pointed out that their spirit is worth for all of us to emulate.

The Vice-Governor Feng Jianshen told the media that he once again expresses his deep appreciation to the Pakistani people and the Government for their humanitarian assistance.

As a gesture of solidarity  and support for the earthquake victims, the medical team on the directive of Government of Pakistan had donated all the left-over equipment and medicines, which they had brought with them, to the local authorities in Gansu province at a ceremony also attended by the provincial Vice-Governor.

The Chinese President, Hu Jintao, also briefly met with the members of the Pakistan medical team during his visit to Gansu province on June 1.

President Hu Jintao on the occasion thanked the Government of Pakistan for sending the medical team and praised the efforts and high standard of the medical staff.
